Otsego real estate.
Just under 30 square miles at the Mississippi-Crow confluence, median build year 2008.
Otsego holds the northeast corner of Wright County, with the Mississippi along its north side and the Crow River joining it on the east. The city puts downtown Minneapolis at 33 miles. Otsego Township incorporated as a city in 1990 and has filled fast since: 13,571 residents in the 2010 census, 19,966 in 2020, and 24,451 in the State Demographic Center's April 1, 2025 estimate, released July 2026.
The housing stock is unusually new. The 2020-2024 ACS puts the median year built at 2008 across 7,757 units, and 6,967 of the 7,518 occupied units are owner-occupied. Detached houses account for 6,029 of that stock, attached units another 1,258. Households went from 6,743 in 2020 to 8,348 in the state's 2025 estimate. The Census Bureau's 2024 gazetteer puts the city at 29.6 square miles of land.
Otsego is split among three school districts, and the parcel decides which one, not the subdivision. The city also has no fire department of its own yet: for 2026, Albertville, Elk River and Rogers cover it under contract, and the city says an Otsego Fire Department and station arrive in 2027. Policing is contracted too, to the Wright County Sheriff's Office, which the city says provides fifty hours of service daily.
The housing
The 2020-2024 ACS counted 7,757 housing units in Otsego and a median year built of 2008, new stock by metro standards. Median owner-estimated value was $396,700. Owners hold 6,967 of the 7,518 occupied units. Detached houses number 6,029, attached units 1,258, mobile homes 263. Verified Otsego addresses carry both the 55330 and 55362 ZIP codes.
Schools
The city's schools page states that Otsego is divided among three districts and publishes a separate boundary map for each: Elk River Area (ISD 728), Monticello (ISD 882) and St. Michael-Albertville (ISD 885). Its combined map is dated 2023. Otsego Elementary, 8125 River Road NE, is an ISD 728 school inside the city. The city says two charter schools also serve residents but does not name them.
Getting around
Minnesota 101 runs north-south through the east side of Otsego and crosses the Mississippi into Elk River; I-94 clips the southwestern edge. Mean travel time to work was 30.1 minutes in the 2020-2024 ACS, which counted 1,842 of 12,095 workers at home. Northstar's last trains ran January 4, 2026; Metro Transit's Route 882 pilot now runs three weekday trips each way between Big Lake, Elk River and downtown Minneapolis.
Parks & things to do
Prairie Park, 13355 90th Street NE, is the 60-acre center of the system: a skate park, an archery range with targets at 20 through 60 yards, and a fenced dog park. The city rents kayaks at $30 a day for an eight-mile Mississippi run from Norin Landing to Carrick's Landing. The Otsego Prairie Festival is at Prairie Park on September 12, 2026, closing with fireworks at dusk.

Which school district will my Otsego address be in?
One of three. The city's schools page states that Otsego is divided among Elk River Area (ISD 728), Monticello (ISD 882) and St. Michael-Albertville (ISD 885), and it publishes a separate boundary map for each plus a combined map dated 2023. The lines do not follow subdivision boundaries, so confirm the specific parcel with the district before you write an offer.
Can I take the train from Otsego to Minneapolis?
No. Northstar commuter rail ran its last trains on January 4, 2026, and Metro Transit replaced the line with buses the next day. The closest replacement is Route 882, a two-year weekday pilot running three trips each way between Big Lake, Elk River and downtown Minneapolis. Elk River sits across the Mississippi from Otsego on Highway 101. Some city and county pages still show Northstar running. It does not.
Who provides fire and police service in Otsego?
Both are contracted. The Wright County Sheriff's Office polices the city under an arrangement that predates the 1990 incorporation, providing what the city describes as fifty hours of service daily. Fire protection for 2026 comes from the Albertville, Elk River and Rogers departments; the city says Monticello was a fourth contract department at points over the past decade. Otsego's own department and station are due in 2027.
How new is the housing, and is Otsego still growing?
Very new, and yes. The 2020-2024 ACS puts the median year built at 2008, so most of the city went up after 2000. The State Demographic Center's series runs 19,966 residents in the 2020 census and 24,451 as of April 1, 2025, with households up from 6,743 to 8,348 across those five years. The city has water treatment work under way at Wellhouse 4, with Wellhouse 3 improvements due in summer 2028.
